THREE TYPES OF FAT

There are 3 types of fat in the body: Structural Fat, Normal Fat, and Abnormal Fat.

Structural fat is vital for the smooth operation of the body. It is the fat that surrounds and protects your internal organs and provides the cushion in your feet so you can walk without pain. Our bodies need this type of fat in order to function properly.

Normal Fat Reserves are the kind of fat that is just under your skin. This is the fat your body is saving to be used as fuel at any given time. The body has free access to use it and store it whenever it needs it.

Abnormal Fat is, like the name states, not normal. The body has stored this fat for a "famine" but has lost access to retrieve it. This fat can be stored anywhere on the body, including around your internal organs. (For each 10 pounds of fat, the body builds 3 miles of blood vessels. This is why obese people have high blood pressure, the heart has to work extra hard to get blood through all these extra miles of vessels.)

When the body wants to utilize your fat reserves for fuel, it generally takes from the "easiest" sources first. It will start with your normal fat reserves and then use the structural fat. It rarely gets around to using the abnormal fat, because even in starvation mode, the abnormal fat is utilized only after all other energy sources are used up. Because the abnormal fat is so difficult for the body to access, often lean muscle gets burned up before the abnormal fat.
